The following article discusses .mix files.

The only program I am aware of that can
read Picture It! .mix image files, (other
than Picture It! or Digital Image and some
of the programs included in MS Office) is
PolyView.

If the .mix file is a layered project like an
album page or a collage it may not open
completely.

You can download an evaluation copy at

When you go to...File / Open...the default...
"Most Images" will not show the .mix files
but if you choose..."All Files" they will show.
