modem driver "not present" status

Posted: 09-21-2003, 12:48 AM
I set up XP - works fine. I attached an external 56k modem on Com1 because
the internal modem is unreliable. I loaded standard modem driver. External
modem works ok until I switch off the pc.

When I switch the pc on again, the modem does not work. In control
panel/phone and modem options, the driver listed as 'not present". I have to
remove and reload the driver. It then works fine.

Any ideas?

To what port is the external modem connected? Have you checked the modem
manufacturer's web site for updated drivers and checked to be sure your
modem is compatible with XP. The fact it works is not indicative that it is
compatible and the fact you have a problem with it after you've switched the
machine off and started again is indicative of either the modem being
incompatible or the drivers needing to be updated.
