Modem driver update wont install

I recently bought a 6 month old computer with XP. I use
AOL and am constantly kicked offline. I have spoken with
AOL who suggested I use 7.0 instead of 8 or 9.0. I am now
kicked offline 5 times in a half hour instead of 5 times
a minute. However, AOL also said to update my modem
driver. I have gone to Microsoft website to install the
driver (SoftK56 data fax voice speakerphone CARP) as this
is the only place i can find the driver (there isnt one
at Rockwell or Conexant sites). It says it is
downloading, but when it is finished it wont install. I
try to look for it in the hard drive, but the search says
the file doesnt exist. How do i upgrade my modem?! Help!
(This same problem has happened on a recent Windows
update, it downloaded but wont install). thanks.
