Monitor won't display red range

I don't really know what area to post this under but I'm
wondering if anyone knows how to fix a problem where my
monitor works perfectly except that it doesn't display
any red colors on it at all. I have had this problem
once before but I can't remember how I fixed it. I have
tried fiddling with the OSD on it and couldn't fix
anything by adjusting the colors. Also to note, this is
the secondary monitor I am running on my computer. The
other monitor does not have the problem.

My computer:
Intel Prescott 2.4A ghz 533mhz FSB 1mb L2 Cache
Elixir 512mb PC2700 DDR Ram
Seagate Barracuda 80gb 8mb cache 7200rpm
Lite-on DVD-RW drive
Compaq 52x CD drive
ABIT VT7 motherboard
nVidia FX5200 128mb by PNY Verto (AGP)
Alliance 350w power supply

Hi:
I, too started experiencing Monitor related problem, ...
not like yours, but 'black-out' once a while. Then, I
accidenly 'banged' on side of the Monitor. Strangely, it
came back normally. Since then, there is NO problem, ...
always good color with NO 'Black-out.'

In my hunch, ... mine is going to 'get aged,' due to the
usage, more than 4 years old. I used quite often for a
long hour.
I have NO good answer to your problem, ... but possibly
your monitor also might be related to the age?

I had a monitor similar to that. One day all of the colors were fine.
That night I shut the computer down and left the monitor in Video
Power Down Mode. Turned off my TV, also. That night there
was a thunderstorm and lightning struck within yards of the house.

The next morning my (most likely about 20 year old) CRT monitor
did not display yellow (ever again). And the picture on my TV
looked similar to when you put a magnet near the front of the tube
(the internal degauss circuits of the TV took care of that problem after
power cycling a few times). Of course my Flat Panel monitor was
not affected. Anyway...

Not sure what monitor you have (all that information about your
computer and nothing about the monitor!) but, in general, degaussing
should be the first thing attempted whenever color purity problems are
detected. Most monitors (all new ones I would suppose) degauss
automatically upon power-on. But some may require pulling the plug
to do a hard reset.
