Default More TV Locations issue

Today started off a good day... i was playing about with the settings in VMC
and i found something i hadn't seen before.

In Settings>TV>Recorder there is a menu called "More TV Locations" and i
thought "now this could be intresting!" and according to the description of
this menu i can "Add or remove folders that Windows Media Centre searches
when it looks for recorded TV. While you can watch TV from these other
locations, TV will only record to the location specified in Recorder storage".

So my understanding is this, If I have 2 PC's with Media center on them
(which i do, one in the office and one in the living room, both running Home
Premium), i can view both PC's recorded TV on either PC, simply by adding the
folder in this menu. Great!

So i'm in the office and i click on "add folder to watch" and went to look
for my Living room PC but oh no, whats this? there are no network pc's
listed, there is C: and thats it!! great so i can now move recorded tv files
around my pc and still access them, wonderfull <-- sarcasam

SO my question is, "Why can i not access my recorded tv in the living room,
on my pc in my home office on the same LAN and workgroup using this feature?
In fact, why can i not access my recorded TV folder at all using Windows
Explorer??"

I hope you guys can help

Your my only hope......

Default RE: More TV Locations issue

I believe the files recorded on 1 computer can only be played on that
specific computer. They are encoded and tied into that specific software
package and can only be accessed from the recording program that wrote the
file. I know that was the intent. I do not know if there is a way around it.

They can be played on other computers, within reason. That is one of
the reason why MC people are using Home Server (albeit in an
unsupported way).
