Motorola Mobile Phone Tools

Posted: 01-17-2006, 01:48 AM
Hi

I have just installed the latest version of VPC v7.0.2, running Win XP
Pro with SP2, all fully up to date. I'm using a PowerBook G4, running
Mac OS 10.4.4, again all up to date.

I am trying to install Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools, v4.04b, again all
the latest version. the program installs ok, but when connecting my
mobile to the USB port, it does not detect it.

On the USB Settings options, along the bottom of the VPC program, it
sees my phone connected via USB, but the Mobile Phone Tools does not
detect it. WinXP does not detect it either, no new hardware wizard
comes up.

if I then try to manually install it, after installation, it is listed
as Not Functional under the modem settings. What am I doing wrong? is
there another setting somewhere I have to enable? I have already
clicked on the USB Settings to Enable this device.

the thing is, VPC installed my USB ports as USB1 when they are USB2
ports. Do I need to up-date the drivers for my USB ports first?

I contacted Motorola, and they were like, if Windows is not detecting
it, it is a OS issue and they cant help me. I called Mac, and they are
like VPC is a Microsoft program. Someone please help!!

thanks

If you search this forum for USB I think you will find that USB2 is not
supported by VPC. Even USB1 support tends to be marginal.

so is it a USB issue that the Motorola software is not detecting that
my mobile is plugged in?
on the VPC toolbor, down the bottom in USB settings, it actually finds
my mobile modem
i then put the tick in it,
and it says 1 Device In Use

but windows is not detecting it
is there anything else i need to do??

nope. You're essentially SOL if your phone appears as a USB2 device.
Try accessing the phone from MacOS X. There's DataPilot:

how annoying....
my phone software is Windows only

but it only lists the mobile modem,
it doesnt say that it is USB2.0

i have plugged in other USB2 devices
and into VPC they work fine,
eg. external drives

the problem is not with the software installation,
but with Windows not detecting that my mobile is connected
VPC sees the device, as it is listed under the USB Settings,
but windows does not detect it

looking through the forum, it appears to be a lost cause...

should i try microsoft support at $35?

Try getting a usb to serial adapter and go that route. It may work for
you.
