Mouse cursor/pointer changed color unexpectedly

Posted: 01-09-2004, 02:52 AM
Hi,

My system is as follows:

PIII/1Ghz
XP Home
Matrox G450, dual monitors, latest driver, 32 bit color setting
Logitech MX500 mouse
Logitech driver, latest version

My cursor has all of a sudden changed color. If I use the Windows Default
scheme in the Logitech driver, the arrow is off-white (slightly pinkish).
However, if I check the box for "Enable pointer shadow," then the arrow is
white. Even with "Enable pointer shadow" checked, the pointer remains
"pinkish" in at least two of my applications -- Photoshop and Quicken.

This all just started happening after I installed and then uninstalled XP
PowerToy's TweakUI and the Windows 3D screen saver, so I figure the change
has something to do with those programs. They are both off my system now.

I have reinstalled the Logitech mouse driver (though I did not uninstall it
first). I have not changed my video driver or settings.

Any help will be much appreciated!

John

Anonymous,

Good idea. Thanks. I had not thought of that. I've only been using XP for
a short time so System Restore didn't come to mind.

I was able to restore to a point yesterday morning, before the PowerToy
installation. Unfortunately, that didn't work... same cursor color issue as
before restore. I did an "undo restore" since that didn't work and am now
back to where I was when I read your post and decided to try your
suggestion.

I also completely uninstalled the Logitech driver and then removed the mouse
from Device Mgr. I rebooted and let XP find the mouse again. Using the XP
driver, I have the same color problem. I reinstalled the Logitech driver...
same issue.

I discover that the pointer color issue only happens on my main monitor, not
my second monitor, so I'm now suspecting something in the Matrox driver.
I'll keep at it. Maybe someone else here will see this thread and have some
ideas. I also posted a message on the Logitech forum.

Regards,

John

I've discovered the problem has to do with monitor calibration software I'm
using, nothing specifically related to the mouse or mouse driver.
