movie maker has encountered a problem?

Posted: 10-24-2006, 04:13 PM
Everytime windows movie maker starts it "Encounters a problem and needs to
close"
Error Signature is as follows...
AppVer. 2.14026.0
ModName: qedit.dll
ModVer: 6.5.2600.2180
Offset: 0001b2af

I have read about the qedit.dll file and it seems to be clashing with an
InterVideo programme? but no idea who to stop this occuring?

please can someone help! it worked fine then one day it didnt?!

Hi,

Do you have IE7? If so, try un-installing it and then open WMM.

Hi,

Well, here is something else you can try that worked for me. Although I'm
not finish testing the impact of doing this, it's something that got WMM to
open.

In Windows/System32, rename the qedit.dll to something else. Then open WMM.
It seems to have worked but again, I'm not sure of the impact. Try at your
own risk.

In my spare time, hahaha, I'll see what the dll does and hopefully have this
problem resolved.

Best,

Will

Hi all,
I had the same problem and had installed IE7. WMM wouldnt work. tried
everything and then finally after removing IE7 off the computer, WMM worked
again for me. IE7 affected another one of my software programs,HP Director
for my HP Printer/scanner. NOw both WMM and the software for the HP Printer
both work. There is some kind of bug in IE7 that affects onboard software.
I downloaded IE7 from a Yahoo email link to me. Not going to download IE7
until it gets fixed.

I had the same error box pop up after I installed IE7 whenever
started
MovieMaker 2.1 (AppsVer:2.1.4026).There is some sort of problem wit
the qedit.dll editing module. There is an incompatibility
between the Picture Package version 1.5 software that came with th
Sony mini dv camcorder I recently bought and Internet Explorer 7.I hav
to uninstall either PP or IE7 if I want to edit with MM2.1.I hav
installed all the updates for these applications

ie 7 is the culprit-----it changes a dll file that caused a conflict
between my intervideo windvd creator program and movie maker
2.1----Using add/remove programs I uninstalled intervideo windvd
CREATOR and just kept the windvd PLAYER. Now my windows movie maker
2.1 works just fine. It fixed the problem.

I noticed other posters were saying they could fix Movie Maker b
uninstalling WinDVD
creator. That works for my computer too!I uninstalled all th
applications except the
interVideo WinDVD suite (which was included with the ASUS motherboard
bought this
year),Sony Picture Package ver 1.5 (which came with the miniDV camera
bought within
the last year) and the Internet Explorer 7 I downloaded today. There i
some sort of conflict
between IE7 ,WinDVDcreator2 and PP1.5 so that Movie Maker wil
generate the "Windows
movie maker has encountered a problem..."error box every time it i
started unless one
of the three applications is uninstalled.I dont know how else to fix i
except to wait for some
updates which would allow them to coexist more harmoniously. (I a
running these programs on Windows XP Pro with SP2.

I did a test on a laptop with XP home running on it to see if I coul
get
Movie Maker to fail on another system besides my own with the progra

disks I have.I installed them into an Asus laptop because m
winDVDCreator2
version will only install into Asus products.First I installe
winDVDCreator2
and MM was still OK then I added a second program,Internet Explorer
and
MM still worked fine but after I added a third,Sony Picture Package1.5
MM
always started with the Windows error box popping up.Then i uninstalle
IE7
and MM worked fine again.Although I did not try it I am sure I coul
have
uninstalled PP1.5 or WindvdCreator2 instead of IE7 and that would als
have
remedied the issue

I can't work out how to uninstall IE7. It is not listed in my
add/remove programs box. It used to be when I had the Beta installed,
but now I have the full IE7 there is no uninstall option.
