Default movie to play on dvd player

I have burned a movie onto a cd but it won't play in our dvd player. Is there a way to change the format so movies(slide shows) will play on dvd player?

XP by itself won't burn to a DVD... you must save your project as either a
DV-AVI file or (varies with third party burning software, some support it,
some don't) WMV file and then use the third party software to re-encode and
burn a DVD.

I've been having the same problem and it's about 50%
solved.

It all boils down to this: there are only a few dvd
players out there that can play a cd or dvd with a video
file burned on to it. The video has to be burned on to
the disc in a format that a simple player can understand,
and that's why you'll need to use third party software to
format the video file properly on to the disc.

If you have your typical CD burning software installed on
your computer (Roxio, Nero, NTI, etc.) then you'll likely
find a VCD (Video CD) or SVCD (Super Video CD) option
when you open the program.

95% of the videos produced by Movie Maker are .wmv files
and my burning software (NTI) doesn't recognize that as a
video file. You'll need to choose the .avi option when
saving the movie (it's halfway down the list of video
options you can choose from when you're determining the
quality of the video).

..avi files are one of the most common video file types
and most, if not all, cd burning software will recognize
it as a valid video format.

If you can find CD burning software that will
recognize .wmv files to make a VCD, then you're done. My
problem is that I only have a CD burner and Movie Maker
keeps making my .avi file (of a 12 minute slide show with
some audio) 2.2GB with no other resolution option to
reduce the file size.

I'll have to find a .wmv to .avi converter in order for
my NTI software to format the video file properly to the
disc.
