moving local user settings to domain user

Posted: 11-20-2003, 08:33 PM
Hi,

I have an XP Pro system that has just joined a domain. I
want the domain user (charles) to still use all the local
settings and have access to the local "Documents and
Settings". Currently the domain user (charles) is using a
new directory for "Documents and Settings",
charles.DomainName.

What I want to do is to PROPERLY copy all the information
over or just use the old directory for the local system
user "charles".

Can someone point me to the specific articles that will
deal with this. I will also have to do the same on
Win2000Pro systems.

Thank you.

Chris

Hi

We solve the workstation to domain user profile change by (in the registry)
changing the profile path for the new domain user to point to the old
user's profile folder, see article below.

If the user is not a local admin, you might need to to something on the
permission side. Use tip 4631 and 2240 in the 'Tips & Tricks' at
