MP3 Encoder

Posted: 09-08-2005, 03:45 AM
I was trying to rip music to my computer, but I can't rip them as mp3's. The
Windows help says that anyone who has Windows Media Player 10 doesn't need
encoders, but thats the same version I have and it still won't let me burn my
files as mp3's.

What is going on here and how can I fix it so that I can burn them as MP3's
instead of wma? Also I don't want to pay $10 for something that I should
already have.

(Not "the" answer, sorry!)

What you want is a three-stage process:
- ripping (from a source to files on your hard disk)
- encoding to MP3 (if it isn't already)
- burning MP3-files

You may be able to pinpoint and fix the problem by being aware of these
steps.

Go to tools/options/rip settings/format. Is there a choice of MP3 there?

Just one guess. Did you remove WMP9 "after" installing WMP10. If so it may
have removed some components. Try removing all versions and reinstall.

.... or use AudioGrabber + the Lame encoder to rip from CD's directly into
mp3's - its freeware.
