Mustek ScanMagic 1200UB Plus

Check the manual. Some scanner manufacturers require you to install the
software before connecting the scanner to the computer. If the software
install requires this, and you did have the device connected before running
the software, you could be in for a big headache. I recommend you uninstall
everything Mustek and disconnect the scanner form your computer. Then reboot
your computer.
Next install the software, and then connect the device.

If this is not the problem, go grab the driver manually: which may also be
explained in the manual. I recommend you uninstall everything Mustek and
disconnect the scanner form your computer. Then reboot your computer. Next
plug in the device. When the Hardware wizard comes up, find the INF file
(downloaded in the driver package you got from their web site) and then let
XP install it.
