I am having a problem with my cd drives. First off I have Windows XP professional. I just recently installed two new drives, one of them is a DVD-rom drive, and one is a DVD-RW drive. Neither of the drives came with installation software, Windows XP just recognized them as what they were. I can play cd's and dvd's out of them. Also, I can burn cd's, that aspect is fine. My problem lies in the fact that when I put a new cd into my drive into either of the drives, the computer does not refresh itself. What I mean by this, is that when I go to my computer in the start menu and see all of my drives it doesn't recognize that I have a new disc in the drive although if I do click on the icon for the drive that the disc is in, I can use the files that are on the cd. Also, I mentioned that burning files onto cd's work, but this problem affects it so that my computer never recognizes that I have an audio cd in either drive. I have a cd ripping program and when I try and burn is says that there is no cd in my drive. I have tried a couple of cd ripping programs and they all say the same thing. I am wondering why my computer does not refresh itself when I put a new disc into the drive. Hope I explained this well enough. Thanks for your time.
