My wife said the kids come first, so could you please help me?

i was having trouble capturing video. the mm2 would freeze when hitting play
or capture buttons. i am using a laptop (1 month old), a sony Digital 8,
firewire, a pcmcia card.

i went back to computer store, got a different card. worked great, was
capturing video. 5 days went by and now it will not give a preview, nor will
it capture. the buttons work fine to operate the camera. when i hit the
capture button (again no preview showing) it went to 5kb and didn't move.
still no preview & camera still responds.

i went back to the store, used one of their showroom laptops with my camera,
same pcmcia card, same firewire, & mm2. no problems, worked fine.

so, a little more background to try to help you, help me.

Hp presario 2108US
mobile AMD Athlon(tm)XP2800+
2.12 GHz, 448 MB of Ram
Virtual Memory set at 896 initial and max
25 gig of hard drive free

windows XP (with all the optional updates installed)
directX9
sp2
ad-aware se plus
symantec

i cannot do system restore for some reason. no matter what restore point i
choose, it always says after reboot, your computer could not the restored to
that point.

any ideas why it worked for 5 days, is not now, and how to fix.

Check your device manager and look for problems, yellow question marks and
things.
If you find any, right click and uninstall. Restart the machine and make
sure it gets the right drivers when it installs, or get updated ones from
the manufacturers web site.
Check the events viewer in administration toots in control panel for errors.
Look in applications and system. Double click on them to get to properties
and find out more it you have any. Try to start your program and if it
fails, note the time and look in the event viewer for errors at that time.

You might go to the manufacturers web site and get updated drivers from
their support area and install them properly for your card.

I checked device manager and went through the update driver wizard. No
yellows, No reds. I did notice two items in the events viewer and found two,
don't know if they will help.
