Need to restore System Restore

Win. XP came installed on my Dell Dimension 8200. P4.
1.80Mhz. 523 ram

The pc was shut off without using Turn Off. Then SR can
be brought up but if I try to create a restore point, i
get the following message.

"Encountered an error trying to enable/disable one or
more drives. Please restart your machine and try again"

This does nothing.

When I try to start SR from the start menu, it comes up
with a dialoque box that says:

"A runtime error has occurred. Do you wish to debug?
Line 165 . unspecified error"

If I click on debug: the yellow arrow points to a
line that reads:
OBJSystemRestore.EnableFIFO;

I don't know how to debug. If anyone has any
suggestions..... would appreciate hearing from you all.
