NetGear WGR614 and XP Pro

Posted: 08-12-2003, 05:13 PM
I'm having a problem connecting through my Netgear cable
router. I am set up correctly and my network connection
appears to be ok. However, when I launch IE I get a page
not found error.

I've been on with NetGear Support and they are seeing an
active connection. We Pinged the server and everything.
They recommended that I shut down my firewalls. This
doesn't help.

Any thoughts, suggestions, or good website that could
help.

Thanks,
Dennis

Dennis,
This suggestion of mine is a long shot but I had a very similar
problem with the same router (Netgear wgr614) that you are having,
just a few hours ago. I had an incredibly slow internet connection
before it totally died. I don't know exactly what I did to my router
to mess it up, (as I never cease to amaze myself how many times I mess
things up when it comes to computers), as I had an internet connection
a day ago, but I called a friend and he gave me a good suggestion that
got me back online. In between the antenna and the port that has a
cat-5 wire coming from the cable modem is a reset button. It is tiny
and requires a pin or something small to stick in there to reset it.
Apparently I had inadvertently changed the MAC address to the router,
and that messed everything up. Before I called my friend, I had kept
unplugging the router thinking I would reset it that way, like I do to
a hub after a power failure or brownout, and it didn't help me at all
since the router has a memory that saves all settings. Resetting it
restores it to default settings.

What got me back online was using the connection wizard that the
router supplies after I typed http://192.168.0.1 into my browser's url
field. Since I have Cox high speed internet, I didn't need to supply
a login name, a service name, an account name, and a domain name. I
also needed to make sure the radio button was selected for "get
automatically" under Internet IP Address and DNS Server Address. I
read this information off of this green piece of paper that came in
the box. In case you don't have the paper, go here:
http://www.netgear-support.com/ts/doc/ispguide.htm

The MAC address came automatically during the detection, and I need to
make sure not to touch that setting in the future.

Good luck,
Amy
