Network Adapter

I use a Docking Station with my Dell Inspiron 8200. Each
time it automatically downloads Windows updates and
installs the updates, the docking profile appears to
change and the computer is then not recognized in the
network. Are there any patches as I feel this is a
problem with Windows XP?

My network adapter, PCI adapter, National Semiconductor Corp. insists that
the network cable is unpluged even though it is not and card lights are
blinking. I have tried everything possible but it resists to work. Any idea
of what the cause may be?
Thank you

I want to share my DSL Broadband using a Dell PC as host. This has an internal network adapter, on its motherboard. When set up, does the DSL modem grab that adapter, so that I will have to instal a second adapter in order to network to the client? The client will be a relatively old laptop with Windows 95, which cannot be upgraded. Any problems? An Email reply would be much appreciated.

You'll need a second NIC to use ICS (software routing). But, a router is
IMHO a better solution. See http://home.comcast.net/~bobwbsgs/homenet.txt
for a brief tutorial.

What connection does the DSK modem use??? If the modem is using an RJ-45
(Ethernet) connection, then you will need a a second network adapter.

Have you not considered getting a boardband gateway router?? This type of
unit allows the sharing of DSL and does not require the two PCs to be turned
on.
