First make sure that your Network Connections Service and Remote Access
Connection Manager services are running. If they are then compare the LAN
connections in the connections folder with the Network Adapter drivers in
device manager. If there is a Network Adapter driver that doesn't have a
corresponding connection in the connections folder then try reinstalling it.

Bert,

I just got a new machine with XP Home. I believe you
need to check the box "Show Icon in status bar". First
connect to the Internet. To find this box Click Start,
then Connect to, then All connections. Right Click on
your current connection. Then click Status, the Network
Tasks menu on the left will drop down. You can then
click on view status on the left or click Status under
the ISP service. Click on Properties and under the
General Tab you will see the Icon.

Good Luck,
GD Joe
