Network Connections, SMTP Server, Mail
Posted: 08-26-2006, 04:16 AM
I am reasonably mobile and use a handful of network connections with my
laptop. I also have about five e-mail accounts on OE and Outlook.
Because of spam and anti-relaying restrictions on outbound SMTP mail
servers, most SMTP servers only allow use if you are on their network. This
means that every time I change network, I have to manually adjust my SMTP
settings in Outlook Express and Outlook to change the outbound mail server. .
This is not only a pain, but has led to lost mail when I have forgotten to
do so and the SMTP server hasn't returned an error message...just swallowed
and lost my mail.
Could you please please add a field in Network Connection Properties called
eg. [SMTP Server] and then put a check box in Outlook Express and Outlook
account settings called something like [Use Default SMTP Server for Connected
Network]. That would mean Outlook and OE would look up the relevant server
from the network connection settings when trying to send mail. That way
mobility will not be restricted by having to change settings etc.
This is an especially necessary workaround if you plan to remove the SMTP
server from Windows that some highly skilled people (not me) used as a
workaround.
Thanks for your help.
Regards,
