Network does not find computers in workgroup

My two computers are both on XP, both fresh installs. no
viruses at all. Both computers have an id and are under
the same workgroup. i have used the Network setup wizzard
and configured the settings manually, making sure the
right conection device is used. the setup wizzard says
everything is ok so i reboot and when i try the network
places the only computer it finds is itself.

What am i doing wrong....?

The XP Firewall is disabled on both LAN connections?
