network faxing

Posted: 08-17-2003, 09:44 PM
Hi everyone - I'm kind of a newby - I have had a wireless
network set up in my home. I need a fax program on my
computer (which i have installed)but the phone jack is in
my daughter's room (fax modem is on her computer and
works). I have also installed the program on her
computer, but I haven't been able to get my computer
to "find" the modem on her computer even though we are
fully networked. Any suggestions? (keep in mind I'm only
moderately computer literate). Any help would be
appreciated.
Many thanks

XP does not support modem sharing. That functionality is limited to Server
operating systems, such as the Windows 2003 Server family.

Network Faxing
Posted: 01-14-2004, 11:56 PM
Greetings,
My department at work would like to have electronic
faxing capabilities from our desktops. We have a Canon
Image Runner unit that serves as a
Print/Fax/Scan/Photocopy all in one.
I'm wondering what application in Microsoft would best
service as a fax manager for the group. I noticed Fax
Console which is part of XP Home Edition. I have the
following questions:
-Can Fax Console be configured so that the group from
multiple computers can view the received faxes (like a
fax pool)? If so, it's also very important that the
faxes be opened by only one person at a time or we'll
have duplication errors with inquiries and orders.
-Does Fax Console have the ability to have file folders
for completed faxes that the group can access for filing,
viewing, and amending?

Thank you.

Windows XP's supplied fax service CANNOT function in any form of
group/network faxing unless combined with the Shared Fax Service provided by
either Microsoft Small Business Server (SBS) or Windows 2003 Server.

Is there a Microsoft download for network faxing for XP?

If not can anyone recommend a good (but inexpensive)
network fax solution for a small business network with 5
workstations sharing (1) faxmodem and (1) phone line?

Thanks

Kord

No. Windows XP Fax does not support sharing. Only Windows Server 2003 does.
There's a listing of some network faxing solutions here:
