Network path not found

Posted: 01-07-2004, 06:26 PM
Using Windows Xp Home, I have established a VPN connection
but when I try to search for the computer it does not find
it. When I use run and type in \\server, I recieve the
error that the network path was not found. How can I
resolve this issue?

What are you connecting to?

What happens if you:

right-click on the connected VPN icon, choose status, details, and note the
server IP address.

do start, run \\ipaddress <enter>

If this fails, answer this question:

Are the server IP address and the client IP address on the same subnet as
your local network. If this is the case, changing properties of IP on the
incoming connection at the host end to give out specific IP addresses may
help.

I tried search for the IP address but again I received the
message that the network path could not be found. I then
tried changing the IP address for the remote user to a
static IP address and still was unable to find the
server.

Are you setting the static IP's given out by the host to the VPN connection
to be a different subnet than the machine you are connecting from?

Are you dead sure there's no firewall of any kind on the host machine?

I am not sure if the subnet is different. I am not sure
if we have a firewall. We can access the server from
other computers connect through the VPN.
