Networking between laptop and pc

I have a laptop with Vista and my PC is XP. I have used the assistant to turn
on the sharing with both, but I still cannot access public folders or print
from my laptop.

If turn off the firewall, can you ping each other by IP? Or this link may help,

You're going to need more detail than that. Lacking detail, I'll give you more
things to try.

Other than the network setup wizards used, Vista will be pretty similar to XP.
You'll still have issues with Windows Networking, if not properly set.
* Put all computers in the same workgroup.
* Make sure that NetBT is Enabled consistently.
* Make sure that all personal firewalls are properly setup.
* Make sure that name resolution is consistently setup.

Start by looking at "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all", from each computer,
and diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked articles, and follow
instructions precisely (download browstat!):
