Networking Indicates Failed

OK...
When I go to the Networking and Sharing Centre The line between my network
name and the internet is greyed out with a BIG red X through it. I can
still access the internet and view the whole map (also an X there but only
for this machine) Diagnostics says nothing is wrong. It worked fine before
and no changes have been made to the machine.

Windows Vista Home Premium 64

I also have a File sharing issue (looks like it has been discussed before
but I do not see a difinitive answer)

I have a desktop running Windows home premium 64 and a laptop with WVHP 32.
I can see all of the public and shared folders on the laptop with no issue.
However I cannot see the folders on the desktop from thelaptop. I was able
to before but now I cannot (beforeI needed a Password even though Password
protected sharing is OFF on both machines) again no changes that I am aware
of. the machine is visable when I click on NETWORK but when I try to access
it it asks for a password but when I enter the correct password and username
I get an error that it is unaccessable.

Any ideas???

Thanks that works fine now....although I have no idea why since I did
nothing.

Now I can also access shared folders though I still need to enter a password
the first time I access a mapped drive or network drive after I
reboot.....Frustrating since password protected sharing is turned OFF on
BOTH machines.

What do I need to do to get this working without the need for passwords?

Thanks again.
