networking with win2k

I have a win2k box that can see the public folder on a vista box but
cannot write to it. The public folder is set for anyone who can connect
to it to have full permissions.

Has anyone got this working?

Hello,

If you are using Beta 2 Build 5384, then this is probably caused by a bug in
Vista.

When Windows Vista Beta 2 is configured to allow network access without
asking for a username and password and also to allow co-owner access to the
public folder, it does not allow you to create or modify files in public
folders from other computers like it is supposed to. There are some
additional steps you must perform in order to enable this feature.

These additional steps are necessary because of bugs in Windows Vista Beta 2
and will not be required in the final release.

Additional Step 1:

Step 1:
- Click start
- Type: cmd
- Right-click cmd when it appears under Programs
- Click run as administrator
- If prompted for permission, click Continue
- Type: net localgroup users guest /add
- Press enter

Additional Step 2:

- Click Start
- Click Computer
- Double-click on the drive with the windows logo in it (should be first one
listed)
- Right-click the Users folder
- Click Share...
- Click Advanced Sharing
- If prompted for permission, click Continue
- Make sure there is a checkbox next to "Yes, share this folder"
- Click Permissions
- Click Add
- Type: Everyone
- Press enter
- Click the checkbox next to Full Control under Allow
- Click OK
- Click OK
- Click OK

You may have to restart your Vista machine and/or the other computers on
your network for this change to take effect.

Bloody hell Jimmy I have been faffing around with this for weeks on
end. I had step 2 OK but not 1. I had decided its not important and to
wait for RC1.
