NEW HARDWARE FOUND

Posted: 10-10-2007, 03:10 PM
I can't get my computer to keep from running the new hardware found program.
It shows an unknown device to install. Every time i reboot it does this. All
my devices work fine, but this message keeps popping up. Any suggestions? I
am running windows vista home basic.

Thanks

Right-click "Computer" and select Properties. Then click System Protection
on the left hand side. Press Continue if UAC prompts you. Go to the
Hardware tab and click the second item down "Windows Update Driver Settings"
and select the second option - to "Ask me first....." That way you can tell
it to never ask you again for this device.

I have a 3 month old Acer TM4230 laptop and its started doing exactly the
same thing as TONYSOPRANO99. My o/s is Vista Home prem. The Techies @ Acer
have told me to do a full system restore, (they feel it's a software issue,)
which seems a little drastic cos I will lose data. I will (of course) make a
backup but you always forget something. Checking in "Device Manager" the
fault appears in the "Sound, Video and games controller" section. It says
Unknown Device with a yellow exclamation mark.
I just wonder if someone has an answer to this annoying problem.

its obviously using some kind of internet codec - as its a new laptop
it`ll be HD audio - possibly realtek. Microsoft have a patch that needs
installing first, but these drivers install that patch before the
drivers anyway.

Make sure all old drivers are uninstalled first.

Thanks Choogster, your right it is Realtek, but I think the computer is 32 bit.

Many thanks, Choogster, have downloaded the latest Vista driver and its not
solved the problem. Having checked device manager agian it appears to be
"Media" whatever that mans. the value of Hardware Ids, is *MusCD. There is a
DVD/CD burner on the laptop.
