Default New Installation Problems

I am attempting to install Windows XP on a brand new
computer. I start out with boot from CD. I partition the
drive and it works great. The trouble comes when XP
starts to copy files to the disk. Occassionally (more
than often) I will get the message, "Setup cannot copy
file: <filename>". Xp gives me the options of retrying or
quiting. This message comes up more than once.

At first I thought this could be a problem with the
harddrive, so I switched drives and still the same. Next
I thought it could have something to do with the CD ROM.
I was using a Memorex CD R/W 52x24x52x. So I went to a
slower drive thinking that there may be a buffer overrun
problem or something to the like. And still I get the
message "Setup can not copy file: <filename>"

I would be grateful for any help that could come my way

Default Re: New Installation Problems

You might have a scratched CD or problem with the CD media itself
Try to copy the whole CD on the Hard drive first and then try to upgrade
from that copy

Default Re: New Installation Problems

The problems you seem to have are often due to one of the things you
checked: HD or CD-rom. The third option is dead RAM: XP installer uses
all available memory. Hence, a slight problem with a little chunk on
your RAM is a real threat.

Wish you luck with that.
