New MB - XP Pro - system reboots right after post

Posted: 01-22-2004, 03:42 AM
I just replaced the motherboard on an XP Pro system.

because the old MB died. When I put in the new motherboard, the system goes through post, Then a screen flashes by (I think it says I may have a virus) and the system reboots. I have put the drive in another system and it does the same thing. I also put the drive in as a second disk and checked for viruses, none were found. When I try to boot in safe mode or go to the command prompt, it does the same thing. When booting in safe mode, it lists the drivers being loaded, it reboots after mup.sys loads. Any Ideas?

yep mup.sys is probably causing the problem what ever it does.

Greetings --

Normally, and assuming either a retail license or a generic
(non-branded) OEM license, unless the new motherboard is virtually
identical to the old one (same chipset, same IDE controllers, same
BIOS version, etc.), you'll need to perform a repair (a.k.a. in-place
upgrade) installation, at the very least:

As always when undertaking such a significant change, back up any
important data before starting.
