Background:
I was running an Asus K8V SE Deluxe MB with Vista and a partly 512 megs of
RAM. I bought another 512 stick as soon as I saw a good price and when I
installed it, the MB freaked out and decided not to work. I found a good
number of people that had the same problem, the MB stopped working after new
RAM, etc, but they were all new and could RMA them. Mine is 3 years old, so
I just bought a new MB instead.
Now:
Last night I installed the new MB, made all the connections, etc. and was
delighted to see that my computer was booting up. When it got to Vista, it
would start to load and then reboot. I am about 99% sure that it is because
this new board uses a different SATA controller than the old board (oh, the
new board is a Foxconn K8S755A-6EKRS with SIS 964 and Silicon Image 3112 Sata
controllers). I believe that when Vista gets ready to load, it doesn't have
the proper drivers. My problem is, I used an upgrade DVD that does not let
me boot from startup (or at least it won't now, the system tells me to insert
a bootable DVD) and the disks and CD included with the new MB are not
bootable either. I did some searching to make a boot disk, but the things I
found said I need to make it from inside Vista. Anyway, you can see my
problem, I need to get these SATA drivers loaded some way (or so I think),
unless someone thinks it might be a different problem.
Any help would be greatful!
