How do I clear out my Newsgroup folders? I've got millions of mails in
there.
Help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hi Kevin,

Create a rule.

Tools/message rules/news

Create a rule to delete messages older than number of days (I use 7). Then
click "apply now" and use the browse button to select the newsgroup server
or the target group. Run it to remove old messages.

When done, close up the message rules, click file/work offline, then click
file/folder/compact all folders. Go back online when done. Not going offline
first can cause the corruption of your mail/news store if OE attempts to
download mail while the mail store is being compacted.

If you mean newsgroup messages or headers, do the following. Select
(Highlight) a newsgroup, right click, select properties, go to local file
and click reset. This will remove all headers and message bodies. Then go
to Tools and select "Get next headers" and the current headers will be
downloaded.

If you have SP1 installed, there is a new Delete function in Outlook
Express that applies to news messages. Select the messages that you no
longer want in your message store. Then use Edit> Delete or press Ctrl+D on
the keyboard.

Here's a specific post on MS servers
news://msnews.microsoft.com/0a4f01c3ba56$ee251fb0$a101280a@phx.gbl

Here's a post on your default news server (if you have one and if it has the post)
news:0a4f01c3ba56$ee251fb0$a101280a@phx.gbl

Here's a group on MS servers (this will set it up)
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...dowsxp.general

Here's a group on your ISP server
news:microsoft.public.windowsxp.general

Actually, it's not obvious how you access these newsgroups unless we check
the properties of your post since these groups can also be accessed through
a web interface. For the sake of all of us who contribute regularly, please
don't tell your friend that.

That said, for Outlook Express 6, go to Tools, select Accounts, go to the
News tab, click Add, select News, follow the screens and use the following
server name to access these groups, msnews.microsoft.com. This server does
NOT require a password or secure password authentication.

When complete, the user will see a message that he is not subscribed to any
newsgroups on this server and asked if he'd like to see a list, answer
"Yes." When complete, in the search box type windowsxp and press enter.
All Windows XP groups will appear. He need only double click a group to
"subscribe." To unsubscribe he need only right click the group and select
"unsubscribe."

Hi NG,

can anyone recommend me a site where I can download more Newsgroups? General
info newsgroups for example, or canadian newsgroups? Anything would be
helpful. I'm a canadian living far away from home and just want to keep in
touch with the world in general.

Thanks in advance

Earl

Ask your ISP. MS only provide access to their groups. ISP provide access to the tens of thousands of others.

Check with your ISP. Normally, they publish the names of their
newsgroups servers on their home page.

Another good starting point to discover what's available is via
http://groups.google.com

Finally ... disguise your email address!

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
