nic-problems

hi,
i've a Pc with a NIC with followed ip 192.168.0.2 and a Subnet 255.255.255.0

When i do a ipconfig i see this NIC with the correct ip. However when i try
to ping 192.168.0.2, a time-out allways occur !

i've tried a ping to 127.0.0.1 without any problem.

How is it possible that i cannot ping to this ip 192.168.0.2 ?

As result of this problem, i can't create a simple network with 2 pc's. The
other pc has a ip 192.168.0.1 and he can ping to his own without a problem.

On both pc's , the OS is winxp prof and there is no active firewall or
virusscan .

thanks, Merf

Try swapping out the NIC's. You may have a bad one. If
you can ping 127.0.0.1, your TCP/IP is working properly.
You should be able to ping your own ip. Good luck.

Do you have a firewall installed on the PC? This can block ICMP ping requests.

What driver names are the nics using? There may be a known issue

What cabling : crossover cable, hub, or switch?
You may need to set the link speed to match the hub or switch.
Auto is usually the default, try switching to 10 half duplex, or 100 half
depending on hub

start\run\devmgmt.msc\R click the nic\advanced tab\linkspeed\set value
