no mixer device detected

Posted: 02-27-2005, 02:11 PM
I have recently purchased a new Philips psc724 sound card. I have disabled my
onboard Avance AC'97 audio in the bios and uninstalled the drivers. I then
proceeded to install my new soundcard which i accomplished successfully. or
so I thought. It turns out that I apparently have not got a mixer device
installed according to windows volume control, directx doesnt detect the card
either, and windows audio is active in computer management. The sound card
came with philips sound agent 2 and even this seems to not detect the card as
it says that sound is muted and if i click the mute button in it, the sound
agent program crashes. i have uninstalled the card and reinstalled several
times to no avail and even reverting back to my onboard sound card doesnt
correct the issue as I am still unable to play sounds. Please can someone
offer their assitance as I have tried everything I could think of and have
searched these message boards for some answers but could not find the
solution.

Any help appreciated!!!

Since the Sound Agent does not detect the sound card, I suspect a wrong
Hall.dll. Usually, you have to do a 'clean install' following the
recommended order of hardware/software installation.
Another possible issue might be caused by HT - hyperthreading technology.
You can diasble HT in Bios (as well as OS hardware detection - set it to No)
and see if Sound Agent can detect your card.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled the hardware and software several times and
this does not solve the problem. Also I have no options in my bios referring
to HT - hyperthreading technology, nor OS hardware detection. My motherboard
is a Mirostar MS6533 and I have installed the latest version of the bios.
