No sound

Hello
I have a Sony desktop with Soundmax intergrated digital audio. I get no
sound after upgrading from Vista beta 2 toRelease Candidate 1. It worked well
before. In the device manager I get an error code and message that states
This device cannot start (code 10). Thanks in advance.

I'm not 100% the drivers are on Microsoft Update, but you may want to give
that a try. Seems like Microsoft added those drivers in early 2006.

The other thing you can do that MAY work is to attempt to install the XP
drivers running the install in Windows XP compatibility mode.

Hi Arthur,

Have you setup your machine in accordance with the supplied instructions?
Check your connections - in particular check that of your signal cable
between your PC and speakers. At the PC end, the cable should be plugged into
a lime-green socket. If it is, then try this quick test. Remove the plug from
the socket on the PC. Turn the volume up to FULL on your speakers. Holding
the speaker cable in one hand, touch the tip of the plug with a finger from
your other hand. Repeat this for the ring conductor. You should hear a
buzzing sound coming from your speakers when you touch the plug. If you do,
then it means that the cable and speakers are working OK. Reconnect the cable
to your PC (turn the volume down before you do so) and try again. If you
still don't get any sound then you might need to return the machine to the
shop. Before doing all this however, check and make sure that the sound isn't
muted. When the sound is muted, the speaker icon in the system tray will have
a red circle with a diagonal red line imposed on it.
