No Sound

Since upgrading to windows xp I have not had
sound.....I've tried everything I can think of to fix
it.....the driver from gateway says its not for windows
xp. I have an older gateway 500 series pc with a multi-
function keyboard. After up-grading the multi-function
keyboard options did not work so i thought that was why
the sound wasn't working. If anyone knows of any updated
drivers to solve my problem let me know where to go to
get it. Thanks CJ

xp seems to be having some major problems with creative
sound boards or possibly graphics boards that have a tv
capability also...when drivers are updated for the sound
to a newer version than originally included on xp it
locks out the sound capabilities in Windows and nothing
fixes it...I have been dealing with this for days and
searching and trying EVERYTHING to get my own sound
back...NO WHERE can I find anyone who has been able to
fix it but people are having this problem all over...The
closest thing I have been able to find is a microsoft
knowledge base article 811777...if you have your product
code you may be able to fix it by getting the fix they
are testing....good luck>-----Original Message-----

I reinstalled Windows XP Professional and now there is no
sound. Device Driver has yellow question marks beside
Ethernet controller, Multimedia controller, and SM bus
controller. Properties say there are no drivers installed
for these; code 28. Under sound, speech & audio devices
there is no problem, everything is working but there is
no default sound. The sound card is built into the
motherboard. I have tried every CD that came with the
computer and the wizard says it cannot find drivers for
these devices. I also tried the Internet. Please help me.
What should I do?

What is the system model and the name of the sound card. You may need to
update your sound drivers.

Hello

I cannot hear any sound on my laptop, ie. when I play mp3s
etc. I can however hear sounds if I connect speakers to my
laptop. How can I change the settings to hear or use the
windows ms intergrated speakers or the sound that can be
heard with no attched speakers?

Regards
Kumari
