No sound!

I recently installed XP and sound worked fine. My old CD-W
was not compatible so I installed a new one, a CD-RW/DVD.
now I have no sound. I have tried all the suggestions in
the Windows help files. I need help. My new CD/DVD came
with Easy CD Creator 5 and it seems to record but there is
no sound to play CDs or even system sounds. Any
suggestions? I need help! Thank you in advance
