No Sound {& PC shuts off by itself}

Posted: 08-24-2005, 12:15 AM
PLEASE HELP !!!

For awhile now the sound from my PC has been coming and going but now it's
completly gone.I thought maybe the sound card is the problem but it seems to
be working fine. It's nothing to do with the volume settings cause I never
changed them. And now my computer shuts off by itself.I have to hold the
power button for at least 6 seconds so it can start after it shuts off by
itself.I tried uninstalling software I downloaded lately but it still
continues.
I'm thinking of packing the PC in it's box and sending it back to the
company cause it's warranty is not even expired.

I'm more concerned of the sound though.
Any Useful Suggestions, would really appreciate it!

I'm Lost ......
PLEASE HELP !!!!

I suggest to search for a good anti-virus, and spyware removal program
before sending it back to the company. Maybe its not such a bi
problem, and you'll have to wait for you computer for a few days if yo
really send it back..

Maybe overheating is causing the computer to shutdown itself?
Maybe there's a conflict with the audio or video soundcard you'r
using?
Do you receive a message with more information after or before i
shutdowns? Or none..

I have Norton Antivirus 2005.I just deleted spyware doctor after 6 months on
my computer cause a friend said that Spyware doctor was the causing his
computer to crash. But it still shuts down.It shuts down with no warning and
after I start it back up ,It's start like nothing happened.I was thinking
maybe it is overheating but sometimes it happens 2 minutes after I start it
up.And the computer was 3 days off.I used windows update to check if maybe I
need an upgrade, but that's not the case.My last hope i'm thinking on is
system restore!!!
Or should I just send it to the company!
How long would it take to get my PC back after sending it to repair??

Well, it looks that in your case you'd be better sending it to repair
as the problem is unkown.. time varies from company to company, it ca
take 1 day to a week (usually not more than that..)

But before that, check the Event Viewer to see if you can find out wha
the problem is. To do this, go to Start -> Control Panel -
Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer, and then check the System Tab
Search for errors that you think might be causing the shutdown, an
follow the links provided for more information..

If it's under warranty, take advantage of that guarantee... but make sure
you backup what you want first. PC manufacturers often format the hard
drive to the condition it was in when it left their factory originally if
they repair the PC.

You use a CD or DVD burner. If you use a CD burner, you can simply drag and
drop, XP includes this facility. If you use a DVD burner, you use your
third party burning software.

Yes, audio and video files, documents, saved games etc.

I have lost the sound from all my videos! The mp3 files on my hard drive play
fine in windows media and realplayer, but all the videos I have, from
different sources (Rapidshare, home video camera, etc.) have no sound, or
only the faintest sound.
Can someone help me?

Kay

By the way, this message is a "reply" because I can't figure out how to post
a new message! Duh.
