no sound in left speaker

Posted: 07-30-2004, 08:11 AM
Hello,
I have a relatively new machine running XP Pro (P4 2.8G, Asus P4P800
motherboard).
For some strange reason, sound only comes from one speaker. I've tested both
the onboard Soundmax sound card and a Creative PCI sound card.
All settings appear to be correct (inlcuding the balance....).
Any ideas?
Thanks

What kind of speakers do you have? If you have a common 1 pin PC speaker,
you may be trying to use the wrong jack in the sound card.

I have an old pair of Yamaha speakers. Internal Amplifier.
The connections are correct.

Do the speakers work on a different system?

I have an old pair of Yamaha speakers. Internal Amplifier.
The connections are correct.

The speakers work on other systems, and other speakers have the same problem
on this system.

Sounds like a bad input. Try wiggling the 1/8" jack around and see if
it changes to both speakers in certain positions. I get this sometimes
with my headphones on my 1/4" jack

Have you gone to control panel and checked "sounds and audio devices"? There
may be an answer in there. My system is different to yours, so I can't tell
you exactly what to look for. Explore the possibilities.

Checked.
Could it be related to the board?
