Hello
Disconnect all network cables and peripherals.
Do a repair install
http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm
Boot from the XP cd you will see a blue screen and it will copy some files
the you will have some options appear at this time you will press enter,
then at the next screen you will press the F8 to accept the license then you
will see the option to repair or install, do the repair, if that does not
work do the install.

Afterwards be sure to Enable the firewall before connecting to the internet,
it just takes a second to get one of the many worms and virus' that are
lurking out there for you.

Be sure to visit MS Windows Update site and download the updates this is for
your security and safety.

www.windowsupdate.com

The thing most people do not know is that after they buy a computer with
virus protection installed they have to go in and register and download the
updates and continue to update it or set it to auto update then after a
period of time the subscription will run out usually in 90-180 days at that
time they will have to purchase new protection either online or from a
retail store and at that time they will be able to update for a period of
365 days (1 year).
