Nvidia driver question

Posted: 06-16-2006, 05:46 PM
I'm having an issue loading the 32 beta driver. Two times the screen went
black at the end and nothing happened. I had to manually reset; and one time
the system was unusable after that. One other time on a re-install I got
prompted at the end to reboot (what i would normally expect.)

So, is it better to use the Nvidia driver that comes with the install. It's
dated April of this year, so it's not toooo old per say.

Just wondering what people thoughts and experience has been on this issue.

Just use the drivers that came with Vista unless you can find a
specific Windows Vista Beta driver from the Manufactorer. Vista is 7
months away from release at least, it is not supported yet.

Nvidia have not done a working Vista Beta driver yet AFAIK, the
existing XP drivers will not work properly.

My cheapo 128MB 5500 Nvidia card is fine on the included MS drivers.

Depends on what you call "working" or not, but Nvidia does have drivers on
their site specifically for Vista B2.

It would help to know which card you have.

I have had the exact same problem on both vista x86 anad 64bit versions.

I am running AMD64 3200+, OCZ1gb ddr 400, Nvidia 7800

I have been searching for 3 days to find someone with the same issue... so I
am delighted with finding out somone else is having issues too!

when I install vista 88.61 drivers from Nvidia, the install will not error
out at all, but ends with a black screen that does nothing. I manualy
reboot and have to roll back drivers...

sorry I haven't got any solutions for you...

Great, I'm glad someone else too is see something similar. Other people have
somthing close, but not quite like this or it's described differently.

This morning, on a fresh install of Beta 2, I loaded the 32 bit nvidia
drivers. At the end, black screen. Let it sit there for a few minutes,
nothing. I had created a system restore point before this, so I just reset.
It came up telling me it hadn't been shut down properly (duh), so I chose the
restore to known good config and it was happy again.

I'm probably not useing the beta drivers anymore. The system seem stable
without for now. Hopefully Far Cry will run without any major issues.

I also ran into the issue of the recycle bin not deleting files..irritating
as well. Oh well. I'm liking everything else so far though.

No worries on the fix. I was more curious to see if others had similiar
experiences. If you find something, keep me informed. Thanks..
