NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller route to no internet???

Posted: 02-15-2009, 01:55 PM

Hi, I need some serious help as soon as possible and all help will b
greatly appreciated.

Im using a HP Pavilion dv9700 notebook with vista 32bit OS installed.

Note that when i did the following i was not connected to th
internet:

The problem only recently occured after i attempted ot remove Norto
security centre from my computer. That uninstalled fine. I als
installed tunup utilities 2009 and did a reboot. On reboot the Window
loading bar froze. This kept happening every time a did a restart. So
decided to do a system restore to resolve that problem. That resolve
the freezing issue and i figured that i would have to remove interne
security again and so tried to unistall it again only for it to say "Th
system cannot find the path specified." So Norton is now corrupt and
cant run it or uninstall it. But i decided to run registry scans an
cleaned up the computer with Tuneup.

After i took the laptop back to where i can use the internet.

I plugged in the Lan cable and tried to run firefox but it didn
connect. The only connection i can get is local only access. I live i
University halls and i should be on the internet when i plug in the LA
cable.

I have since tried a system restore to restore back to a couple of day
ago but its no use. I still have the same problem. No internet and n
chance of uninstalling Internet security for good.

As my LAN network driver is Nvidia netwroking controller I can onl
assume that its the nvidia controller that is the problem. Even thoug
windows claims there is nothing wrong with it. I have tried uninstallin
the driver, but when i confirm it just closes the dialoge box and doesn
uninstall it at all.

I cant rollback the driver as its not an option and although
downloaded an older version of the driver and installed it (it said tha
it installed?), it has no overrun the more up to date driver.

I have been trying to fix this for around 6 hours now & its vital tha
i get back online with the computer as i have assignments due in fo
tuesday. (im using some one elses computer at the moment)

Many thanks in advance, Please help me someone.

Regards

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool (on another computer if necessary)
to clean up Norton remnants
http://service1.symantec.com/Support...05033108162039

Then open an elevated command prompt and run >netsh winsock reset

Hopefully "tune up utilities 2009" hasn't made the situation worse.

Hi
This can be a "sticky" problem. If Core OS file (or files) that are related
to Networking are corrupted there is nothing that you can do short of
reinstalling the OS.
Try first what was already suggested. If it does not help try to disable the
Network card in the computer's BIOS and boot one time with the Network card
Off.
Switch off the computer, switch On the Network card and let the OS reinstall
the Network's settings.

Thanks for the replies guys. I fixed the problem by formating the entir
disc the other night as i was in total desperation. I didnt want for i
to have to come to it but that always seems the way. So i gatherd enoug
external hard drives to accomodate all my backup. Both options that yo
guys proposed seem like very feasible solutions so thanks for helping.

Kind Regards

Just as an FYI, I ran across the exact same problem on a friend
computer. Your solution with the removal tool and the netsh comman
worked perfectly.
