Default nVIIDA GeForce MX 4000

Hi, I just bought a nVIDIA GeForce MX 4000 graphics card, but when I try to
install the drivers it tell me to first uninstall the previous ones, but this
is my first nVIDIA product ever in my computer. What is the problem? Is it
not compatible with Windows Vista or what on Earth is the problem?

Microsoft installed default nvidia drivers automatically to provide basic
functionality, and please go down a few threads to read 'installing nvidia
drivers on 5456' as gives links on which cards get advanced support from
nividia at this time. That card will not support Aero Glass.

See my reply to Hagar two posts down for links to manufacturer websites
specifically for Vista Premium video cards.

The main requirement for a video card that supports Aero Glass is DX 9
support, PS(Pixel Shading) 2.0, and its been said card as low as 32mb run
Aero, but with how cheap the compatible video cards are you can easily get a
card with 128-256mb of memory. They really are not that expensive, but you
just might wait as in the future DX 10 cards will be out, and all of these
higher end DX 9 cards will be very cheap, and Vista is still in BETA anyway,
not expected to be release until next year.

I recently bought a used FX 5500 256 agp, which retails for around $60 now,
and it was likely the last video card upgrade this system will get as my
hardware is at the limit of its abilities when it comes to bottlenecks,
front side bus, etc...

You will find experiences here

<http://www.iexbeta.com/wiki/index.php/Windows_Vista_Beta_2_Hardware_Compatibility_List>

and you may follow the links to ATI and Nvidia here

<http://www.microsoft.com/technet/windowsvista/evaluate/hardware/vistarpc.mspx>

the cheapest cards supporting Aero glass are

Radeon 5500 or X300 or X1300 by ATI

GeForce FX 5200 or 6200 or 7300 by Nvidia

(be careful to take cards with their own 128 MB VRAM, not HyperMemory
- ATI - or Turbo Cache - Nvidia -, those marketing names for shared
memory!)
