offline files problem

Posted: 06-06-2007, 03:50 PM
I'm using a Thecus N5200 NAS. Any folder that I make 'always available
offline' always fails to synchronise. I get messages in the Sync Centre
saying that every file is in use - thats right - every file. I don't
understand why this happens.

If I do the same thing on my Windows XP Pro laptop, I get a message for
every file saying 'extended properties are not supported'.

I checked the properties of the shared folder on the NAS - it shows as
'Windows NT 4.9 Server'.

I've posed the same question on a Thecus forum, but no has suggested
anything other than agree with me that I could use Synctoy. I've also
contacted Thecus support directly but they don't respond.

Is this a common problem with offline files, or do you think its related to
my NAS ?

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike

I have a similar problem. Like you I'm getting the error message "file
in use". But only once. The next syncs are producing no error
messages. But if I try to open a file in offline mode I'm getting the
error, that the file is not able to be opend. Well, I understand this,
because the files have a filesize of 0 on my local disk.
The shares are on a Windows 2000 Server. I checked the properties of
the shares, but in my eyes these seem to be ok.

That's the reason why I'm thinking it's a common problem and no NAS
problem.

I found no solution uo to now.

Greetings

Martin

Mike,
I am not familiar with the particular NAS device, but could you find out if
it supports oplocks? From the error messages, it sounds like oplocks are not
supported on the server and Offline Files on a Vista client needs that to be
enabled on a server.

Thanks,
Shubhankar

Thanks Shubhankar, I will get in touch with Thecus to ask about oplocks, and
will post back here.
