Old HDD New Computer

I have taken the hard drive out of my old computer and
installed it in my new one. I did this to save money on
new HDD, and to avoid having to reinstall OS, Programs,
and Data. When the computer boots it boots me into the
Safe Mode screen, however no matter which option I choose
boot in safe mode, boot normally, or boot with last know
good settings, the computer resets and reboots then the
safe mode screen reappears. I know this has somthing to
do with Windows XP recognizing that it is in a new
computer. How do I solve this problem? I do not want to
lose the data or programs installed on the HDD. Thanks
for any response.

You will have to reformat and reinstall the OS so that XP can recognize the
different hardware. You do have a full retail disk, don't you? If you have
an OEM disk, you are out of luck.

Dooley,

Follow this procedure;

1. Put the HDD back in the old system and boot it up as it was before
2. Go into the device manager and uninstall everything that will be
different on the new machine
ie. Uninstall mainboard and chipset drivers, etc.
3. Shutdown. (Do not restart again on old hardware).
4. Move HDD to new system and boot.

Should detect new mainboard, chipsets, etc and install appropriate drivers.

You don't have to format but you will have to reinstall.
try to boot from a floppy and move your data to a safe
directory. Then do a system repair or reinstall over the
top of your previse copy.

That should do the trick.
