parallel port, kyocera printer

hello,
i've got a problem with my parallel port printer. after some minutes of
inaktivity the printer automaticaly goes to a "power safe mode".
unfortunately windows xp cant wake the printer up again. so i always have to
switch the printer off and then on again. i didn't have that problem with
windows 98.... has anybody got an idea what i could do?

os: windows xp + service pack 1a
mainboard: shuttle mk35vn
printer kyocera FS-1550+ (drivers that came with windows xp)
