Posted: 01-20-2009, 01:06 AM

I'm looking to partition my hard drive on my laptop to run Windows 7.
When I try and do so, it only says it can partition about 14 gigs MAX

Here is the problem, My hard drive isnt even close to being full, i
says i have 122 gigs free of 285

Why the heck am I unable to partition any more than 14 gigs

Hi,

Because you have a locked, immovable file near the end of the volume. You
will need to resize using a third party partitioning utility that runs
outside of Windows, as the drive tool in Vista cannot get past this point.

You can't add another partition it until you shrink the one you have.
Windows Disk Manager can only shrink the partition until it hits an
unmovable file.
You may need to use another program, like GPartEd, or BooitNG
