Partition type for xp?

I'm partitioning my one hard drive for multi boot.
What type of partition should I create for XP?
I will be using fdisk, because I want to do it myself,
instead of letting the cd do it for me. I already have a
primary partition with win98, and extended partitions with
linux. Do I need to create another "primary" partition?
It's been awhile since I've used fdisk, that's why I'm asking.

Partition type for xp?

Hi,

As fdisk will only create FAT partitions, you will be limited to using FAT32
(or you can convert to NTFS after the install). As the boot files will
likely be installed elsewhere, it matters not whether the target partition
is a primary, or a volume in an extended one (though you cannot later
convert these). Make sure you are using a version of fdisk that can handle
large drives.

Personally, I would just leave unpartitioned space and use WinXP's setup to
create an NTFS partition with it and format. You are unnecessarily making
your job harder.

Make it a FAT32 partition. Then you can write to it from linux or win98.
They won't write to NTFS although linux will read it.
