Partitions for dual-boot

Posted: 06-13-2006, 03:54 PM
I have a Windows XP system with a 50-GB unallocated disk partition (in
addition to the 180-GB partition that XP is in).

I'd like to install Vista Beta and have a dual-boot system.

How do I need to prepare the new disk partition for it? Primary or
extended? NTFS, I presume? I have Partition Magic available if needed.

I've found some information about how to customize the boot manager once I
get everything working, so that XP can be the default and so that everything
can be labeled the way I want it in the boot menu:

Yes, make sure that the partition is extended and uses a file system of
NTFS. The minimum disk space required is 11.3 GBs, but Vista uses 8 GBs, so
anything between 15 and 20 GBs should fair for Vista.

The partition can be primary or extended/logical, it does not matter. The
only requirement is that it must be formatted in NTFS and be given a drive
letter (D: or whatever).
