Pausing Games Vista Ultimate 64bit

The games I play on my Vista laptop work very smooth and fast, but when I
pause the game it freezes for about 10 seconds and then the paused game menu
comes on. The same thing happens when I resume the game, I have to wait 10
sec for the game to come back on. I know it isn't a performance issue. My
laptop has the following:
- Vista Ultimate 64-bit
- 250Gb hard drive
- 2Gb RAM
- 512Mb nVidia graphics card
- 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo
The games I play are GTA San Andreas, World In Conflict & Halo 2.
I need a solution!
