Posted: 03-07-2006, 02:58 AM
Hi,

the performance rating tool is good, but where can we found some references?
my p4 2Ghz is rated 2.4 and my Radeon 9800 5.3
how a 3Ghz is rated? and a dual core? 32bits/64bits? etc...
how the latest video cards are rated?

thanks.

Jerome.

Not yet looked for a performance refence, but this is how my system is
rated with Vista Home Premium build 3508:

CPU: P4C 2.8 with HT: 3.6
RAM: 2GB (DDR PC3200 dual channel): 4.3
Primary HD: 14.4GB free (26.92 total): 4.9
Graphics: Radeon 9800 pro (MS WDDM driver): 5.6
Gaming Graphics: 127MB Graphics Memory: 4.2
Overall Rating: 3

I don't understand how the overall index is computed. My test machine gets
an overall rating of 2, even though each subrating is *over* 2 (video even
gets 5.3).

Since others are posting their numbers, here's the results for my Shuttle
SN85G4:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 4.6
2Gb RAM 4.4
HD (Barracuda 7200.7) 5.1
Radeon 9600 Series 3.2
Gaming 255Mb 3.1

Overall Result: 3

Guess I should be looking for a better graphics card - though I do have an
AGP nVidia Geforce FX5500 256Mb lying around doing nothing. I wonder if
that would be better?

FX5500? Not sure. You should look for something like a 7800GS if you
want a good AGP card

I wouldn't get any higher up than a 6600 if you're going AGP, unless money
is no object.

Besides, the 9600 should be able to run Aero Glass fine unless you're
running it at a high resolution. The 9600 probably performs better than the
FX5500.

Well, it would be nice to have something that scored a little better for
the Vista performance rating, but I don't want to spend lots of money at
this stage.

I just wondered if the FX5500 I have would be better than the Radeon 9600
already installed, both have 256Mb RAM, but Travis appears to have
answered that.

Money is definitely not "no object" at the moment.
