pinging

I try my ping thing not shure what it does but it comes
back as all timed out. what is this for and is it a real
prob

If what you are pinging does not exist, or they have turned off their
"reply to ping" to make them more "invisible" on the network, you'll get
a time-out.

If you're not sure what ping is for, then why are you doing it?

Ping sends a series of requests to a server and times to
reply in milliseconds. There is a limited amount of time or
the connection will be considered to have failed. Many
servers are set to refuse ping so they will always "time
out" MSN refuses ping but last time I checked Yahoo did
not.
Start/run...cmd to open the command window.
ping yahoo.com and you should get back 4 replies. you can
also ping and ip ping even works to test your own internal
ip. Try ping 127.0.0.1

a ping registered a request from an web site or computer.
u must make sure that u r pinging a vaild IP address. u
dont need to ping yourself though

Hi Perry,

A time out indicates that either the IP you are pinging is off-line or that
you are off-line.
